Digital Fusion wins Global War on Terrorism Team of the Year Award
June 9, 2008
Chris Persons of the Sensors and Space Systems Division, as well as engineers
from General Dynamics, Raytheon, and several government agencies, were recently awarded the
Global War on Terrorism Team of the Year Award, awarded by the Secretary of Defense, for his
effort in the MAGNUM ACTD. The MAGNUM program developed and integrated an imaging polarimeter
into the MTS-A gimbal manufactured by Raytheon and flown on the Predator UAV as well as several
manned aircraft. A successful flight demonstration was performed on a manned Navy aircraft and has
resulted in the sensor becoming a standard payload option for future Predator procurements. For Chris, the
successful flight demonstration is the culmination of nearly 10 years of research and engineering in
imaging polarimetry and in direct support of this program. While not listed on the award, several other
DFS engineers made significant contributions to the MAGNUM program: Dr. Michael Jones, Michael Gulley,
Anne-Marie Dorsett, and Craig Farlow.
